Fishing
Southwest
Alaska offers some of the finest fishing in North America. Home
of the world's largest sockeye salmon run, the rivers also have
major silver and king salmon runs. World class rainbow trout, arctic
grayling, arctic char, northern pike and lake trout are found in
many rivers and lakes.
When
planning your fishing trip to Alaska, make sure your timing is right,
because most fishing for the anadromous species occurs during specific periods of the year, ensuring that
you get the greatest opportunity for success.
The
peak fishing periods for the following species are:
| King Salmon |
Mid-June to Mid-July |
| Sockeye Salmon |
June and July |
| Coho Salmon |
Aug. 10 to Mid-Sept. |
| Pink Salmon |
August, even years only |
| Chum Salmon |
